The Wooden Nickel: From Farm to Table, to Community

The Wooden Nickel Pub stands as more than just a place to eat in Hillsborough—it exists as a constant in people’s lives. This project set out to capture that. The Wooden Nickel family carries a deep commitment to caring for this community, a care that begins at Wooden Nickel Farms and carries through to every table in the pub. From the deliberate work of raising animals to the atmosphere they cultivate at the pub, the team is putting in the work.

Initially focused on the farm-to-table aspect of the Wooden Nickel, this project quickly became about the community. The walls of the pub are lined with the people who call this place home, and for a semester, I was lucky to be one of them. The Wooden Nickel Pub has never met a stranger—if you don’t consider it home yet, just stop in, and you soon will.
